Just got back from my first erotic writer’s conference, Eroticon 2013 in Atlanta, and had a BLAST…Rick and I learned so many things that our heads were spinning. We picked up tips on everything from technical tips to Search Engine Optimization to ideas for great blog photos. I hope Rick was inspired to get his camera gear out and take some fun, erotic pics of me and other ladies. (Volunteers, anyone?)
As you may have noticed, I’ve been tinkering with Indiscretions’ look. I’ve been craving a cleaner, more thoughtful site, and I think I’ve finally got it. Thanks so much to Molly from Molly’s Daily Kiss, and her most intelligent and generous husband Michael for their brutal honesty as they shared blogging tips. Ruby from The Erotic Notebook and Write Sex Right was the event’s emcee and was so very gracious and giving to everyone, as was Jade from KinkandPoly.
We attended a fun session titled “Hands-On Kink,” presented by Graydancer, who has many years of experience in BDSM roleplay. He demonstrated how to tie different rope knots, proper spanking techniques, and provided some insight into the BDSM world. It’s not a kink of mine nor Rick’s, but I was fascinated by all the thought that goes into preparing for a BDSM scene.
I have to say, however, that the highlight of the day was the readings at the end of the day. Prior to the conference, there was a call for entries for Eroticon’s Erotic Writing Contest. I submitted a couple of entries and was so surprised, humbled and, frankly, thrilled to find that one of my stories, “Don’t Fear The Beard” was among three finalists in the competition! Each of the finalists’ story was read aloud by one of the judges, then the audience cast their ballot. Alas, “Don’t Fear the Beard” didn’t win, but I received some outstanding feedback and was encouraged to keep writing, which of course, I will do.
So, for your reading pleasure, I have linked that story, as well as Part 2. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
We met a lot of fun, creative people who like to do what I like to do – write about sex. Rick and I invited Ruby to bring the next Eroticon to Dallas; we’re keeping our fingers crossed!
